Historical comparison of building materials

Think you know drywall? Let’s see 👇

❓ Question:
What was drywall originally called when it was first invented?

A) Gypsum board
B) Plasterboard
C) Sackett Board
D) Rock lath

💡 Answer:
C) Sackett Board — invented in 1894 by Augustine Sackett.
It was made with layers of plaster and felt paper, way heavier and harder to install than today’s drywall.

The term “drywall” came later because it replaced traditional wet plaster systems, saving time on drying and labour. It really took off in the 1940s as faster construction became essential.

🔨 Fun Fact:
A modern ½” drywall sheet weighs around 50–60 lbs… and yes, carrying those all day is still a workout 💪
